Paintings - Fiber Arts - Raw Wool

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Aleshia “Dream” Garrett blends her passion for painting with her love of fiber arts in a unique way. Inspired by her adorable long-wool sheep, she creates paintings that feature her fuzzy friends, then incorporates locks of their beautiful wool into the canvas, creating a tangible connection to the animals portrayed. Her “Wooly Creative Dreams” collection showcases a variety of heritage breed sheep and their woolen locks. Her goal is to use her art as a platform to educate others on the varieties of heritage breed sheep, the distinct value of each breed’s wool, and to spread awareness of their endangerment. With every purchase you make, 5% is donated to help support the Livestock Conservancy, a nonprofit organization working to protect over 150 breeds of livestock and poultry from extinction.

My Materials

Oils/Acrylics/Watercolors/Pastels

Most of my art is created using paints on canvas or heavy papers. I use a variety of mediums and don't limit myself to the traditional items. I began incorporating fibers into my art in 2020 when my husband and I launched our heritage breed sheep farm.

Fiber Arts

We own a small flock of Valais Blacknose breed sheep. We shear their long locks twice a year and then hand process the wool into yarn to be use in a variety of fiber arts. I also felt the long locks into my art to create a 3D effect in my sheep paintings. I love to crochet, working to improve my knitting and have a new-found passion for weaving.

Raw Wool

We harvest a good amount of wool each year. The parts I don't use in my art, we sell to other fiber artists. Any scraps are used as mulch in our flowerpots and garden beds. Wool provides loads of nutrients for vegetable and flower gardens, provides a barrier for moisture-loss protection and prevents weeds.
